About the artist

Mosko

In 1989, Gérard LAUX began painting MOSKO Savannah animals in the endangered Moskova district of Paris's 18th arrondissement.

The following year, the adventure became collective under the name MOSKO et associés, with the same ambition: to beautify the street.

With the publication of the book "Peignez la girage" (Paint the Giraffe) in 2004, the giraffes, zebras and felines were painted on wood, palisades and other recycled materials, giving them a new reality: the works were presented in galleries.

From 2005, and the "Section Urbaine" exhibition that marked the collective's apogee, Gérard LAUX developed his work in his studio in Aubervilliers, then in Montreuil, while continuing to paint in the street.

As a result, the popularity of his work grew over time, with group and solo exhibitions, auctions and street performances, often endorsed by institutions. His involvement in the Tour 13 project is particularly noteworthy.

As part of a process of continuity and rebirth, Gérard LAUX has returned to his original "MOSKO" signature as of 2015. His technique was perfected during successive artist residencies in India, with the use of brushes and acrylic paint, and a monochrome stencil for finishing, giving his work greater freshness and freedom.
